Traditional Fabric is more than just fabric; each variety has an interesting history. By understanding the different textures of these fabrics will help you to identify what fabric you will need for certain projects around your home.

Classical fabrics such as these are truly admirable in any home. You can coordinate patterns with plain shades of the same fabric for a really elaborate look.

Chenille Jacquard Traditional Fabric

Did you know that the word chenille is a French word for “caterpillar”? These creatures have short hairs which gives them that hairy appearance. It is this appearance that Chenille derived its name from. Chenille thread is fairly broad with a soft feel. Another distinctive feature to this fabric is the way it is made, particular types of threads are used and color arrangement to give Chenille that beautiful shimmering look.

It can also be produced from rayon, acrylic and olefin yarn, although it is mostly made from cotton.

Chenille Traditional Fabric is suitable for all your upholstery requirements, as well as for slip covers, pillows and throws. There are a variety of colors to choose from, like rich chocolates with gold motifs and plain that you can coordinate.

Taffeta

Taffeta is a Persian word and means “twisted woven”. It is produced from silk or man-made fiber, and is thought to be a “sophisticated” Traditional Fabric.

It’s available in plaids and stripes as well as in Persian Embroidered coordinates which has absolutely stunning colors, from cream gold, petal pinks, rich burgundy, and aqua blue.

The plaids and stripes are appropriate for drapes, wall coverings, cushion covers and duvets. While the Persian variety is ideal for window treatments that require light weight fabrics. This type will pick up the light wonderfully making it perfect in areas that need brightening up. Taffeta can also be used to make ball gowns and wedding dresses.

Toile Traditional Fabric

This fabric originated in France way back in the 1800’s and stands for “cloth from Jouy-en-Josas” which is a town in North-central France. Toile is still very fashionable today as it was all those years ago.

The pattern is made up of a countrified scene for instance, picnics beside a lake or any other similar country landscape. The backdrop is usually either white or a creamy white with the repetition of a solitary color which is frequently black, deep red, or various shades of blue. More recently, pinks have been introduced, along with paisleys and stripes. Toile is a perfect Traditional Fabric to use for all your curtains, duvet covers with matching coordinates.

With these fabrics you can mix patterns with plain tones, or choose a neutral main color and complement it with a rich vibrant shade.
